Hello all,

As above, I have just moved into a new house and the fire in the living room as stopped working. I have had someone come out and look at it and he said the solenoid has stopped working. I rang up magiglo to get the spare part but they are telling me that they had been taken over and the parts they make now dont fit my fire (even thought they still sell the magiglo affinty)

Now I really dont want to have to buy a brand new fire for over £500 for a new solenoid that would cost and £15

Does anyone on here know where I could get spare parts? The people I have been speaking to a magiglo just keep saying that the parts they have dont fit my fire anymore without giving me anymore help. Im really at my wits end.

I have spoken to the owners of the house before me and it was only installed 6 years ago

Any advice would be greatly apperciated

Regards
Steely

Hello Steely, welcome to the forum.
you could buy a fire for less than £500!
if there is an answer the best person to ask it is the Gas Safe engineer that would be fitting the part for you.

As Simon has pointed out, you cannot fit this part by yourself, even if the part only costs £15. You need to call a Gas Safe Registered Engineer to supply and fit the part.

In the interests of public safety, it is forum policy NOT to supply gas related advice to non GSR people.

I am having a Gas Safe Registered Engineer do all the work for me its just he cant find the part. This is why I am having to go to all this trouble trying to find it. I am not looking for fitting advice, I am looking for help and advice on how best to get this part that I need to stop me having to buy a whole new fire unit.

Cheers
Steely

Even if you are as you say, looking for advice about where to purchase the part, we still cannot give you the advice as we're having to take your word for it. There are also very few reputable places that will sell you a part without showing that you're GSR.

However if your GSR engineer sends his registration number to admin, he will be allowed access to the GSR Engineers forum and he is welcome to ask there.

if the manufacturer cant help then i think your going to struggle. Most gas engineers get there parts from parts suppliers, who inturn get there parts from the manufacturer, if they do not make the part anymore its going to be out of stock at most places. also unless its a very common part to fail it would be order'd from the manufacturer when needed and not a stocked item anyway.
