bob the plumber

hello,

just a bit of advice if poss please. went to have a look at one today with a leak. took the case off and so on to investigate and seemed to trace the leak to just above the water governor on a part called 'push rod and seal' i have come to the conclusion that the seal has been breached and it is weaping into the base of the boiler case and through any small openings.

just wondered if any of you guys have had to take these out and replace as to be honest it looks like an absolute nightmare and i dont fancy my chances!

thanks

Cost of parts for some of these water heaters is going through roof, not meny heaters left on market this is due to the efficeny rateings look into replaceing unit.

As you say it will be the seal around the water section spindle that has gone and requires replacing, the big thing is how long has it been leaking, as could have got in the gas section and corroded the secured screws around water heater base, you have to be careful as if you can repair, when water dries out of gas sections it could seize components ,so you need to clean everything fully,if it has been leaking a while and corrosion has developed ,would replace water heater

ps you will have to remove burners to access sections as required

imho

:iagree: as puddle says :iagree:

It's time consuming and you really need to know if the screws securing the housing can be removed. You're stripping the unit down to it's max so really need to be confident that you can do this and get everything back together again... You'll need the full service kit & you might as well replace the diaphragm whilst you're at it! You can still get replacement heaters, by-the-way! 🙂
