What is the best way to locate your mains valve stopcock. I have found the one under the kitchen sink, but need to locate the external one. I've enquired with Severn Trent Water, and was thinking of asking the neighbours. Are these shared in some instances? There is nothing obvious in the street. Do all houses have them externally?

Thanks in advance

Hi. Press Seven Trent as the external stopcock ( in most cases )is their responsibility, they may well send a employee to locate it. Good Luck

If you live on an old main road it maybe across the road on your side of the pavement. 🙂

You can have communal mains. They usually serve five houses at a time. If you go out into the street, look for the Fire hydrant boxes, that will tell you which side of the street the main is on.

But as been said if your on a single supply, the water board usually find the box for you. Sometimes they get paved over.

Saying that, I have seen water mains serving any number of houses with the stopcock placed virtually anywhere. So please don't take it as read where your stopcock is likely to be. Pester the water utility company to find it for you.

suss out the d i y genius ...there is one in every 5 houses statisticly in the uk .. he will b in one of the houses and he will have maps of the water pipe runs which he drew up himself in his spare time!!!!!!

Result - I found it seven houses down having asked the neighbours. Seems it'll knock the supply to seven houses if I use it though.

Thanks for the advice.

i think you will have to use caution there alaska if you need to shut it down as s.t require you to give notice of any works i believe (but not neccessary do). lol😉

They are small panels set into the pavement with "water" engraved on them, that's what they are where i live, need a key of some sort to open.
