Mates rates!

The other week I asked a friend of mine (who I work with on occasion) to do a gas safe cert and service a boiler in one of my rental properties.

It was all done and no problems.

When I asked him I told him to bill me for it as I've got no problem paying him for it! I explained that I claim it back on tax anyway so if he doesn't bill me the only person winning is the tax man, I end up paying more to HMRC.

This was over a week ago, I've e-mailed him to remind him, I've also seen him in the suppliers had a chat and a coffee with him mentioned it again and still I'm waiting!

Trouble is, when I need another one doing or a gas problem I will feel awkward asking him because he doesn't charge me!

I know this seems a bit mad that I want to pay but if I don't I feel like a ponce! Still I can't keep asking!:2guns:

Its ok I've just cleared a blockage...

lol so he is doing it for free?? whats the problem?? i have a landlord cert to do for a friend next week, the only appliance in the house is a gas boiler...no hob, no fire etc. ill be charging 35 quid simples 🙂

I'll presume its for free but we spent an hour doing it, 3 appliances, as we all know being self employed times money etc. My misses tells me I'm a freak and if he wants to do it for free then thats his choice.

I suppose though, I have dropped what I'm doing to help him out in the past and I'd do it again. I don't like the thought that people think I'm taking advantage. Yes, I know I am a freak, actually reading it does help, back to the therapist Monday!

i do things on the free for mates just for the love of the job 🙂 a few beers and im right

I have a no mates rates rule and we all stick to it. If a painter mate paints my conservatory and I drop him a couple of quid he'll expect me round to fit him a new boiler or bathroom suite for a couple of quid. Ferk no!

Honest pay for honest work.

I would just give him a fair amount and tell him it is going through the books so need a invoice or just put a copy of Gsr in the books with amount paid at bottom of it
imho

Ring him and invite him and his mrs for a drink , than buy the drinks and treat him with a nice meal 🙂

Quite like the idea but I'd do this anyway as we're mates. Unfortunately I can't run this through the books as the tax man won't wear it

Hmm! Why be scared of somebody doing you a favour? Its called friendship. Not every thing in life comes down or should come down to money. Try it it works great.

Now that's a nice friend. You should learn to accept what he has done graciously. That is what i have been told. I have over the past years and the other day my Mum in law bought me a big house and gave me £40,000k. I really did not want to take it, but they said they wanted to bless me for looking after their daughter.

It was really hard to accept. HONEST!!!!!

ive got a seven rad system coming up for my cousin, complete new install new gas run for family rates lol 🙁

No, full rate for family, booked in as a normal job. If they want it cheaper then it goes to the end of the 'full fare paying passengers', which basically means it will be done on the 12th.................of never.
