Guildfordboiler

Was working fitting a boiler saturday the driveway was steep drove my t5 to the top about 2 hours later I opened the back door and lent in looking through my fittings bins when the van started rolling backwards then dragged me on the ground i jumped to the left as i didnt want to be run over but i didnt clear the wheels i ended up been dragged all the way down the rough surface of the driveway finally stopping in the middle of the main road

i was only wearing cargo shorts and a polo shirt and these were torn to bits and i suffered skin loss on my belly back both legs shoulders groin and the old feller and broke my ankle!!

I consider my self to be very lucky as so could have killed me if it had rolled a meter more it would have crushed me against the curb

from now on i will not park on steep driveways

You haven't been seeing another van on the side have you? They can get very jealous...

Seriously - sounds like a lucky escape.

Glad you're okay.

And park in first/reverse gear.

Never trust a handbrake on any vehicle when parked on a slope at more than 1 in 10 (10%).

That was some accident if you managed to get road rash on the old boy

Thanks i honestly thought my time was up!
Ray it must have heard me talking about her crappy mpg to a fellow plumber at the suppliers lol

Ouch! I trust you acted like a pro and finished the boiler before ringing the ambulance?

Seriously though that was a lucky escape, bet you didn't know what hit you?

lol when i got up off the ground my cloths were rags covered in road rash full of adrenalin i know i had hurt my wedding tackle as i was fully exposed and could see it !! someone was driving down the road and stopped as my van was blocking the road what they must have thought i calmly opened the door and found my work trousers that i had in there and put them on while the guy sat waiting in the car then i drove back on the driveway!!
got out the van and thats when the customer and his wife saw me and they were really great and took care off me

once i calmed down i insisted i got there gas back on so they could cook and use there gas fire over the weekend luckily i all i needed to do was put a test on the meter im going back tomorrow with my lad to commission boiler

Sounds like one of those nightmare moments that springs out of nowhere when you're least expecting it.

If the handbrake was fully applied, and your van has been through an MOT, the tester needs his arse kicking.

That kind of thing shouldn't happen these days.

a lucky escape there i had similar in the snow early this year parked on a steep drive and after half hour the van decided to slide back with wheels locked into the car behind i was just coming out of the house and my first thought was someone was stealing it

Lucky escape that. Mine rolled of a drive in the snow. First job after Xmas, hit a neighbours car. So I was down after my first day.

this happened with my old vw lt35 all the time on anything steeper than a nun's nipple!
passed all mot's but handbrake almost non existant.

secondary braking system required........ thumbnail.aspx.jpg

The handbrake should only be used as a secondary restraint. I always leave anything I drive in gear when I leave it, I just don't know why you wouldn't.

well i normally do but i guess I forgot to on that day!!
i am only human and we do sometimes make mistakes or forget things
do you have to be so judgemental ??
