New Boiler Heat only

Good afternoon,

After a bit of advice, I am looking at replacing my boiler which is an ideal mexico super 3 floor standing which is 33kw. I want to look for rough costs online before calling someone out and wasting there time if I can't afford it

1) would the kw be the same?
2) do any other changes need to be made i.e smart controls or zoning areas it is a large 5 bed house or is it just the case of changing boiler over with minor pipework changes.

1) no idea, you need to have heat loss calcs carried out to ascertain heat load.
2) no idea, we don’t know what current system you have and how the pipework is laid out.

I always recommend that you change the controls at the same time as it just makes sense to me.

What's the point in changing boiler flushing system adding inhibitor then within the 1st year pump goes valves dont hold so you end up draining system again.

You need to get a gsr guy in to do some calcs

There will be other work involved , as the guys above have suggested you need a site vist and a survey done contact a reputable GSI for a costing . Kop

Hard to give a meaningful estimate with so little information, locally to me an entry level 30KW boiler which is almost a straight swap would be about £2000. If you went for a boiler from one of the more respected brands and you needed a few days of work to give you a reliable system it would be around £4000.

Valves and controls can cause as many issues as the boiler its self, for what they cost it's generally wise to swap them.

Like you would with anything else try and get 3 quotes, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Personally I'd go with a local company rather then a big national firm, if money is tight its getting more and more common for guys to have arrangements to offer fiance on heating systems.

Too many variations tongive a price to be honest mate. Ask around for someone recommended and go from there is my advice.

No engineering or legal reason I know of not to fit a second user part, so long as it’s of the correct make, model and revision.

We got rid of the UK.

The only time I would is when I physically couldn’t change the boiler other than that time for a new boiler / upgrade

I sometimes fit old parts. But this is because I tend to always have an old burner in the back of the van (oil). If I don't have the new part then I strip it off as a make do until I can get the part. Or I offer it at half price, but with no warranty. Lots of people struggling with money so a cheaper boiler repair can sometimes come in handy.

Any reasoning behind this? if second hand parts are good enough for aircraft which is arguable the one of the most safety critical applications you'll encounter I can't see why they shouldn't be used in heating.

Good for the customers pocket, good for the environment not to scrap something that can be repaired. Good for the reputation of plumbing and heating to ruled out all avenues before telling a customer they need to spend £1000's the may not have on a new boiler.
