Evening All,

I've had a Worcester Bosch 29cdi Classic installed today, as well as 5 new radiators. I'm looking for some advice on central heating water temperature, TRV settings and mobile thermostat setting.

Before I go into my actual question I thought it would be best to give you a break down of my heating set up as it stands at present.

Boiler Settings

Hot Water Temp - Eco mode, set at "e" setting
Heating Temp - Set at max, around 86/87 degrees

Thermostat

Salus
S-Series Programmable Thermostat

Downstairs

Hall - 1 x Rad (non-TRV)
Lounge - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)
Dining Room - 1 x Rad (non-TRV)
Kitchen - 1 x Rad (non-TRV)
Conservatory - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 1, around 8 degrees and Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees, when in use)

Upstairs

Bedroom 1 - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)
Bedroom 2 - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)
Bedroom 3 - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)
Bedroom 4 - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)

Bathroom 1 - 1 x Rad (TRV - Set at 3, around 20 degrees)
Bathroom 2 - 1 x Rad
(TRV - Set at 3, around 20 degrees)

Airing Cupboard - 1 x Small Rad (TRV - Set at 2.5, around 18 degrees)

Finally, my questions....

1) What setting should I have the central heating temp on the boiler?

2) I have TRVs on all upstairs rads, currently set at 2.5 (18 degrees), they are working perfectly fine! However, the kitchen/dining room is too hot. How can I control their heat? (I know at least two radiators shouldn't have TRVs on them)

3) What is the best location to have the mobile programmable thermostat? Naturally, I know it's mobile so you can have it where you are located but in general, what's best?

Thanks all in advance!

Well, they've broken building regs for a start. All radiators should have trvs bar the one in the hall and the one in the conservatory. The conservatory must be on its own zone.

Leave the stat in the hall. If you take it into a room with a trv the trv may shut off before the stat is satisfied.

Don't turn the boiler down any lower than 80. It will take forever to get the house up to temp otherwise.

Get them back to fit a trv on the dining room rad.

Have they left you any paperwork? (Assuming you've paid them of course!)

Have they notified the job?

Heat loss is huge in conservatories so the regs are different.
Its deffo a conservatory in the sense of a mainly glass house bolted to your house and not an extension of bricks and mortar with a patio door ??
Not being cheecky but sometimes people are loose in their descriptions.
I.e "we have a large bay window we would like a radiator in"..
You get there its a bow window lol in an ex council house

It does have patio doors and has around 2ft of bricks/mortar around the bottom half and the remainder is glass?

Couldn't you just ask the people who installed the system.

I find it quite strange that you ask all these questions, on a public forum, pertaining to the system you had installed / rectified today.

Not sure what angle you are coming from and even more unsure of you intentions.

I would be very 'upset' if a customer of mine would take to the internet to get perceived views of the system I had installed for them, particularly on the day of the installation.

My thoughts exactly

Why are you asking us? Why don't you ask the person who put all this in for you?

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. In response, I thought It would be more beneficial to me to acquire the opinions of a great spectrum of people, professionals at that. My installer, has given me his thoughts which I have taken on board. Logically, one assumed that using an internet forum (shocking I know) would be the ideal platform to do this. Clearly, I have made a very grave error in thinking this.

Kind Regards

Crikey what a suspicious lot.
Is he asking for specific gas advice.

Anyone ever wanted a second opinion from someone else lol

Thanks a bunch guys. There's a punter who's gone away with a bad opinion of us for entirely the wrong reasons. I don't care about the idiots sent away after asking for illegal gas advice, they can think what they want. We all need to remember the UKPF is for professionals and the DIY trade alike.

We need to sometimes keep our suspicions to ourselves or use the report button and the the mods will look into a post.

We all know the installer who will rattle through how a system works at the death of the day. Possibly the same one who isn't as painfully scrupulous as we all claim to be. Because of them we get guys and girls asking these questions.

Please answer politely where you can, where you think you can't, report the post if applicable and move on to another thread.

We're trying to get more sponsors onto the UKPF to offer you some smashing deals. They're not going to come aboard if they clock these kind of answers!

I met ermy the other day for a chat.
He could barely stand up, slurring his words and not making much sense...

Didnt strike me as unusual for this part of the world 🙂

I like cornflakes gas - the 1975 gas like blue flakes under the boards, turns the under floor void into dungeons and dragons!

I always wo dered what that was. Found them blue flakes a few times in pipes.
So its from the old town gas then?

No it's not quite understood 100% it's got some iron in it and sulphides too. Think it's from old iron mains and sulphide that is deposited into copper pipes.
