Bear with me all you plumbimg experts, this will seem a trivial question for you. I have seen on numerous posts on some forums about cisterns and cold water storage tanks that are noisy fillers. When asked to describe the noise it is generally along the lines of "it sounds like water rushing through the pipes" or something similar. I have lived in my house since it was built 18 years ago and have always had noisy filling cisterns and the cold water tank. The worst is the cold water tank in the loft and is worse since a new float valve was fitted about 2 years ago. I have always described the noise as pressure noise, don't know if it can be described as such though. After running hot water it is very noisy and if someone is in the shower upstairs and somone is watching tv in the lounge then the sound has to be turned up a bit to hear it clearly.
I have seen a Fluidmaster valve mentioned that damps down the noise, but does it damp this type of noise rather than the noise of water running into the tank which we actually can't hear.
Could one of you experts please advise me if one of these valves, or any other sort, would help. Thanks in advance.
