I finished my NVQ level 2 plumbing and heating a few months ago.

I am now unsure if i want to go back to college on day release for level 3 and not get paid for days at college as im self employed. I don't really want to do gas but i know i can make good money from it after doing the level 3.

Is it worth the time and money or should i just do a few short courses?

Chris, when in did level 3 you could do it with or without gas, that may have changed.
I know your dilemma, I was self employed when I went back to do level 3 , and yes it was a full days graft but you always were watching the clock knowing you had to get to school for 6 o'clock , we stopped until 9. 30 and then went home for tea lol.
We also did a few full weeks on assessments , think it was ,4 so that was another 4 weeks without pay .
Would i do it again ........ Yes probably....... So when somebody asks are you fully qualified I can say yes. LOL

Has any of your existing clients ever asked you for your credentials?
Nope never, and if they did and I told them they would have no idea what was good bad or made up. Dont forget with private customers and the general public as a whole you will regularly be explaining that a thermostat is not a manual on off switch, only to be locked at with an expression of shock and awe or complete bewilderment. What do you think those individuals will make of you telling them you have an nvq2. They will probably say they are very sorry to hear that and hope you get better soon.

Outside of the industry no one gives a monkeys. If they did and new there stuff the cowboys would not exist to the same extent as they do now and all those little adds in the local rag for handyman or property maintenance or plumber or bathroom fitter which are just a guy with a van with little more experience and training then having once used a toilet would disappear.
Then again we wouldnt all look like angels to our customers going behind the Muppets and fixing all the carp bodging.

Hahaha I literally laughed out loud!! To be honest, I've recently passed just the technical L2, I'd like to do gas but I doubt I'll do any more college stuff - I just want to learn on the job now. Like you said, customers haven't a clue and no one else gives a monkeys! The proof is in the pudding
