Oil boiler hot water working fine but won't start on heating programme

Good evening to you all. I have a Grant Multipass central heating boiler with a Honeywell control panel, both about 15 years old.. It runs fine if I switch the hot water on, and the boiler comes on if it gets cold, vie the froststat in the roof I guess, but I can't get it to run the heating. I have checked the wall-mounted thermostat, which switches power to the third wire when I turn it up over the ambient temperature. The red light comes on at it should on the control panel, but the 'on' light on the boiler doesn't. Any thoughts anyone?

you can afford to get an oftec engineer in if your a land agent to resolve the issue with your programmer or motorised valves.

never seen a land agent on a bike 🙂 open your motorised valve manually and see if the boiler works ok

Does the circulating pump run when the heating is switched on? I doubt it. I punt for LPs answer - its almost certainly the motorised valve. You may be in luck, you may be able to just replace the head rather than the whole unit depending on type.

I'm not 100% but putting a motorized valve on manual, is only to open the valve for flushing, filling etc, it doesn't activate the microswitch to power the boiler. Also, if the head is knackered, why? Has the body got a build up of muck? And putting too much strain on the motor? Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm new to the plumbing side of things.

Depends on the make of valve, ie Sunvic and therefore Danfoss heads click on manual opening - Drayton and Honeywells dont.
With head off, you can usually feel if the valve is ok, to a degree anyway.

its much like your knees will be in a few years, plain worn out and by the by, manual operation of the valve will activate the micro switch to turn on the boiler
