Hi - I have recently moved into a new build with oil fired heating installed. There is a metal bowl type filter installed on the tank outlet however I have noted that the filter bowl is facing upwards rather than towards the floor. Is this correct? Does it matter?

better to be with securing nut under bowl near floor, easier to work on and less mess plus designed to be that way up, is there enough clearance underneath to access bowl correct way up

There is plenty of clearance underneath to fit it the correct way up. Additionally there is a slight weep of kerosene from the retaining bolt hence my question.

If you got a drop of water entering the filter, you need the bowl facing downwards, water being heavier & for that matter, dirt also.
Use paper element filters if yours is just a cheap gauze type & you ever replace it.
