Can anyone help? Have a cold water tank that overflows in the morning (only). Ball valve works but there is a "top feed" pipe which I havent got a clue why its there and is obvioulsy filling up the cold water tank and causing it to over flow into the roof and into the bathroom - very irritating - started 2 days ago

That 'top feed' sounds like the vent pipe from your hot water cylinder....if you have the hot water switched on in the morning or at night it may be that it is getting too hot and expanding up the pipe check your thermostat

Also check that your warning pipe (overflow pipe) from the tank to the outside of the house isn't blocked as it should usually be able to cope with the extra water and run it outside
