Hi sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I will be ordering the materials online so I want to get it right. The waste from my washing machine is old and has started to crack ( it runs outside) so I want to replace it the fittings are plastic white compression 40mm inlet size 40mm, the only pipe I can find is:- white waste pipe 1.5ins inlet size 40mm width 43mm or solvent waste pipe 40mm inlet size 40mm width 43mm, help would be much appreciated.

either pipe will do as you are using compression fittings, there is allowance in the fittings for slight variance in size. oh and welcome to the forums.

Hi cookiebun,

There are basically two types of waste pipe, solvent weld and push-fit. They are different outside diameters in order to take the respective push-fit or solvent weld fittings, however either will take compression fittings.

1.5ins is 40mm in old money and relates to the internal diameter of the pipe.

I hope this answers your question.
