Ok, I'm sure this has been asked before but here goes. A mate of mine is a good painter and decorator but wants to get the basics of blumbing too. I'm not talking massive installs, more shower/tap replacements, sort leaks and stuff, not only just basics though. College isn't an option due to age and current work commitments. I'm not overly impressed with OLCI and NCS seem quite pricey. Based in Cornwall, is there any FWW courses that are better than others?

Is it for your mate or yourself? You also said that you only want to know the basics then you said not only the basic's? You will not get much plumbing work only doing some small stuff

Definately a mate, I'm a sparky and much prefer staying dry. In a holiday driven part of the country, there is a market for the smaller jobs, just keeping the holiday parks and cottages running. The guys in the area are really only interested in the larger jobs. Sorry for the confusion. Ok, so a course offering a little more than basics . . . . .

We're looking at Train 4 Trade Skills or Acces Training at the moment but any advice would be appreciated.

I agree, All painters i know are making a very decent living plus i think that it is an easier job than plumbing!

he would be better off gaining experience following another plumber really. You probably know yourself from your own trade its takes time to learn a trade and quick training courses are normally worthless in the long run.

Painter and dec at my old work used to add on £15 quid to each of his private jobs for me to take off/re-fit rad. This suited me fine as i used to do it during my lunch break
