hello guys

I've stripped nephews bathroom as some of you know and set new pipework up with speedfit
i've ran a length of pipe up through studs to be ready for cutting and running across wall approx
2ft would it be easier and less bulky if i used copper and ready soldered elbow for shower connection
and if so would this bit of pipe need earth bonding to copper under floorboard ?

I was discussing this topic with a highly qualified sparks the other week, supplementary earth bonding. under 17th edition rules you now don't have to bond pipe work. However, bathrooms are a special area and do have to be rcd protected. You should (if you haven't got one) get a rcd unit which you can fit next to the fuse box in the cupboard or wherever it is. To do this you will/may need to split the tails coming into the house. So, you run them from the incoming mains to both the shower rcd unit and the main consumer unit.

So, if that is as clear as mud, no you don't need earth bonding but you should have rcd protection on the shower.

I know this because I had to do this the other day!

However, if your like most people and your connecting it up to the old style consumer unit and your house isn't 17th edition compliant it wouldn't do any harm using a bit of earth cable.

I now feel like a politician and said everything you wanted to hear but not covered anything.
