Hi guys, a friend of mine has told me that they have the above problem. The water is just a trickle out of the hot on the bath (not mixer just single separate cheapo taps). The hot tap in the kitchen is ok. I said it most likely the tap valve needs replacing. Does that sound about right?

I have been there before when their hot water was playing up and it was the pressure on the boiler needed topping up but i'm assuming that is not the case this time if the kitchen hot is fine??

What do you all reckon?
Cheers

Change bathroom taps to high pressure . Sound like the had heat only boiler and bathroom was on a low pressure before .....

Bath taps have a larger bore than a kitchen or basin tap, so while the quantity of water delivered per minute is the same; the perceived pressure is different.

The taps in the bathroom have been working though up until now and i'm sure they have been on there quite a while. I changed a pop up waste on the bath last week also that wouldn't affect it would it?

Have you dismantled the tap to see if there is anything wrong with it?

Does the tap turn on fully or just one turn(ish)?

The washer part of the tap has most probably separated from the inner spindle. The water flow will still be able to be shut off but when the tap head is turned to open it will not open far enough to allow the water to pass through. Chances are it will be a circlip on the top of the spindle that has failed.
Just open the tap up then take the top circlip off, push out the spindle then rejoin it to the washer part. Push it back into the valve body and refit the circlip at the top.
Make sure to put some grease on the moving parts and it should be fine.

It is usually not the circlip that has failed - but the works normally have came apart, as you describe, due to the lower 'O' ring being worn that is on the washer part of the works. Greasing it often will sort it for a time, but needs a new O ring or complete works/taps. This happens with hot taps mainly.
One way to prove what I am saying is when you take the centre out of the tap & screw the two parts apart, tap the female part upside down & water will come out of it because the O ring was letting water past.
