I carried out repair to a plastic pipe eaten by a rodent in the ceiling space above and to the right of a power shower. Water from the leak was dripping through the ceiling when I arrived and the top of the power shower casing had drops of water visible on it. I carried out repair to the pipe and left without touching the shower in any way. The next time the shower was use there was reportedly electrical shorting inside the shower blowing fuses at the spur and the consumer unit. The user of the shower was not harmed in any way. The shower in question was 15 to 20 years old. The question is.....was I under an obligation to remove the cover of the power shower to check for ingress of water? In my opinion the answer is no...as power/electric showers are designed for safe use in a wet environment. If I was under such an obligation....then every plumber/electician with reason to believe water could have been been sprayed onto a shower casing....would be under an obligation to check such a shower.
