We have a normal dial type wall thermostat (also have TRVs on all radiators). Woild like to replace the wall stat with a programmeable stat so that the temperature can be set lower during the night and then increase early morning etc. Can this be done with the existing wiring assuming the new programmeable stat is battery powered or does the wiring need to be changed ?

Thanks

Yes it can (I have done this with my heating) and is a good idea.

You will have to set the existing programmer to continuous operation and make sure the TRV on the radiator in the room with the thermostat (if there is one) is set to a higher temperature than the stat.

thanks guys - looks like a good idea then - the current wall stat is in the hall so may move it to a sitting room
