Hi all, i have an issue with my central heating. I have a salus ep200 controling it. The heating (radiators) comes on/off as it should but the hot water is on all the time, even when it is set to off. I have tried resetting it but that makes no difference. As soon as there is power to the unit, the hot water comes on, but the unit says its off.
One suggestion was the jumpers, but nothing has changed in 4 years since i bought it.
Is it looking like its the programmer or something else?
Thanks.

Only way to know for sure is to work through the wiring unit with a multi meter. could be the 3 port valve if fitted or a two port valve depending on the set up you have.

:iagree: with secret squirrel 🙂 depends on what type of system you are controling to be honest ... Do you lnow the design 's' or 'y'plan?

if it has worked ok in the past and you did not have this issue before it sound like your diverter valve is stuffed and the micro switch is stuck depending as above which valve 2/3 port good luck

Thanks, so is there anything i can do other than change this valve? How can i be sure it is the valve?

You need to identify what type of valve it is first btf? A simple way to eliminate the programmer is to take it out of the equasion ... If it's fitted to a back plate, turn your fuse spur off, remove the programmer from the plate then turn the spur back on. If the boiler fires up you know it's not the programmer 🙂

And if it doesnt fire up, will it be the programmer??

Not with 100% confidence without knowing your particular system design ... I'd still be wanting to check that there was a suply from the programmer h/w on when it was actually off!

I did have a new valve fitted a year and a half ago. This was the opposite, the heating was on all the time, this time its the water!

simple question mate coz I really can't be chewed to look up the info .... lol

two pipes or three attached to the valve?

2 pipes, one on each end.

Thank Btf ... well that makes it an 's'plan .. So you have to eliminate the programmerto be sure .... By the way, is the little handle at the side slack or do you feel a resistance to push it across when the hot water is turned off?

Little handle on what? If its the valve, ther is a cover over it. Can i take this off? Is it safe to take it off?

It's a honywell silver toped valve yeh? if so it should have a silver leaver ... crikey I'm rakin my brains now as its on auto pilot when i look at these valves ........ oposite end that the wire goes in i think ... No need to take the top off thats for sure!! It stickes out like a little tadger!! LOL

Yep, got it. Same end as wire lol.
Power off, the lever has resistance when pushed across and then steadily works its way back to the start. It sounds like a motor/ toy car motor when you push it lol.

Thats the boyo! If it returns then the valve is in effect "off". However if the boiler still lights up on hot water only I'd be edging my bets towards that valve being the fault... You can get replacement heads for them. However, as said before. removing the programmer confirms that the silver heat monster is at fault!!!

Brilliant, thanks for that. I will remove the programmer in a bit and see what happens.
Is changing the head a job i could do or do i have to call in the boiler boys? Im an engineer by trade, just know nothing about central heating lol.

Just taken the programmer off the wall, powered the ststem up, and hey presto, the boiler kicks in.
Are the heads on the honeywell valves easy to change?
