Looking for some help on a few issues with my Ideal Classic boiler.

The pump seems to be on a constantly live feed. Never heard it go off.

The boiler from time to time also switches itself on and off at regular intervals.

From what I can see in the wiring box it appears that someone has added links into connections that the box does not ask for. In the back of the cover it gives instructions for a twinzone system and a biflo system not entirely sure which one I have. Whichever I have someone has put extra links in to other connections on the block.

So the pump if it is a biflo system should be linked to connection 14 which is the cylinder stat but its not. The pump is actually connected to connection 12 which is labelled BLR. Connection 12 BLR is then linked to connection 6 Mid-pos valve (orange). So the pump seems be on a constant live instead of being switched via the boiler.

I have added some photos to follow that may help.

Because you haven't enough posts under your belt yet.

Do you have one zone valve with three pipes going to it or two each with two pipes?

Ah I see that's fair enough.

Yes I have two Drayton zone valve actuators.

I'm guessing that means it's twin zone.

If you imagine an upside down T the pump is in the middle of the long part of the T and the actuators are either end of the small part

That's brilliant guys. I'll go through that all and see if there's anything out of place. No doubt I'll be back with more questions.

Has it always done this then it's wired wrong. If it has only started happening recently then one of the valves have developed a fault.
Turn the power off check the indicator on the side of both valves is at the A position if at B then the valve is stuck open.
If both are at A then the micro switch inside one of the valves is stuck.
The easiest way to find out which one is withe the power still off disconnect one of the orange wires and put it into a spare terminal.
Now switch the power back on, make sure that the clock is off. If the pump kicks up then the valve still connected to number 6 is faulty if it doesn't then the one you disconnected is faulty.

I can't tell how long it's been doing it, just recently it's been more noticeable.
That's brilliant Johnmdc I'll run through that first thing tomorrow morning.
I had a quick look at the wiring tonight and it seems the water tank thermostat is linked into the pump, boiler and valves which is incorrect. Not sure how it would affect the pump though.

Johnmdc you are a life saver. The actuator for the HW is constantly stuck open obviously not allowing the pump to shut down. Thanks for your help. Just need to get the plumber in to fit the new actuator.
