A friend of mine had a new circulating pump fitted to their central heating system. the pump is very noisy when running, makes a fairly high pitched whining? Can anyone suggest the reason for this noise?

Hi Wally, check the following with regard to the pump.
Has it been fitted the correct way round,
Have both of the pump valves been opened fully,
Has the pump been bled of air.
The whining sounds as though it may not have any water in it. Also check the correct speed has been set on the pump.

I got called to a similar problem whilst plumbing in Glastonbury and found that the customer had fitted his own pump and had not opened one of the pump valves.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Graham
