I have a push button flush toilet. After flushing, water runs continuously into the bowl and the push button stays loose so you cannot do another flush. If I raise the lid of the cistern it seems to close a valve, the push button is normal (ie ready for another flush) and water stops running into the bowl.

I have read somewhere that this may be cured if I shorten the tube between the push button and the valve assembly but I cannot work out how to remove the tube from the plastic box which is under the lid. If you look at the photo you can see a blue clip sticking out of this box. Should I be able to pull this out with pliers or is there some other technique?

Any help in explaining how to shorten the tube, or any other solution would be appreciated. I want to fix this myself rather than call in a plumber.
