Hallo all

I'm a complete amateur and this is my first post ......

People refer to using silicon lubricant on the joints of JG/HEP2o fittings - presumably to make it a better seal and less likely to push out the o-ring when inserting the pipe.

So, first, does this silicon not increase the chance of the pipe pulling out so maybe you should lube very lightly - maybe just the pipe, or just the fitting?

And, second, which product do you use?

Andy

The silicone lube is for the pipe to slip over the o ring

The o ring will already be lubed up with silicone oil

The pipe is held in by the grab ring and the o ring is purely for sealing

It wont slip out any easier

Also the silicone lube will dry over time. If you were to use fairy liquid (petroleum based) it will rot the rubber over a long time and damage the pipe. That will more than likely give you a leak compared to over doing it with silicone lube

Any plumbers supplies will sell silicone spray. Dont bother with the paint on grease. The spray is much quicker and easier. Jut spray it in the fitting to cover the o ring.

i tend to get dry tongue when using plastic 🙁

if you use a grease make sure you apply it just before the fitting goes on, it the grease picks up dust sitting around you will increase the risk of a leak.
