Hi Everyone

This is my first post, I'm a novice undertaking some simple jobs on the central heating in a house we've recently bought.

I'm having trouble identifying the right part. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

I've got a new TRV to replace an old non thermostatic valve. I ordered a 15mm valve with 8mm and 10mm converters to fit the 8mm pipe feeding the radiator. The problem I have is that the connection on the radiator measures about 1inch, and I can't find a bush anywhere that will convert the 15mm TRV output to the 1" radiator input.

There is a 1" x 1/2" bush available from Screwfix, but I can't see this fitting onto the 15mm TRV.

Am am I missing something here? Link to a picture of the valve that needs replacing below.

I should point out that the old valve doesn't seem to be working, it worked at first but now doesn't turn the radiator on in any position. It has been well bled and the output valve is open, so I'm assuming it needs replacing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome along.
you will need to take the existing fitting out of the radiator with a suitable radiator allen key.
the fitting size tapping on the radiator is 1/2" bsp.
the new trv will have a fitting as part of the kit to fit the radiator.
this is really basic stuff, might be time to employ a plumber?

You need one of these to remove the tail.

Thanks for the help guys. I managed to replace the valve. Unfortunately it hasn't solved the problem. I could see when I took off the old valve that it wasn't jammed shut, it was open a bit. With the new valve on the radiator is filling with cold water when I pressurise the system, it comes out of the bleed valve, but the radiator still won't heat up. Yet all the other radiators do heat up. I could understand if there was no water getting to this radiator at all, if there was a blockage then you wouldn't get anything coming out of the bleed valve when repressurising the system right? But I'm stuck as to why it seems to fill with cold water but won't heat up.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

if both valves are open then your next course of action would be to turn off both side and open the vent when the water has stopped coming out drain down and remove the radiator connect a hose to the radiator valve and open till you get some hot water coming through making sure that the heating has been on but now switched off then do the same on the other side once you get hot water through both refit the radiator and turn both sides on and bleed the rad if its a combi you need to re-pressurise then put on the heating hopefully that sorts it
