Hi, Could anyone suggest the best possible action please. We need to change some very old single radiators. I purchased some new type 22 doubles but have now realised the pipes won't connect as this new radiator is much wider. We've concrete floors and new flooring down so taking that up to move isn't an option. Someone mentioned putting bends in but said it would look awful. Or should I change for a Type 11 single radiator and hope they'll fit? Any suggestions welcome. Thank you

Hide the bends behind the new radiator is what I'd do.

You don't usually HOPE the radiators will fit - you measure up and buy accordingly. You'll probably find it impossible to get an exact match, but you'd normally look at the available sizes and order something in the right ballpark, perhaps slightly narrower and then you'll only need a slight tweak to the pipework or a valve tail extender. To be honest, if you're fitting a type 22 or 11 in place of an old single panel, you'll get a greater heat output even without increasing the width, so a bit weird that you've opted for a new radiator that is much wider than the old.

My concern is that your old pipes MIGHT not be sufficient to provide the flow of water that the new, higher output radiators will need to warm up correctly, so unless you've checked that first, you may be wasting your time entirely.

Hi, I've purchased the same size radiator as 600 x 1200 etc it's the thickness of the new radiator as its a double from a single. Thanks

I don’t think bends will look bad at all, a little offset should do nicely. Changing to type 11 might get them to fit without the need for offsets, smallest bracket side fixed to the wall.
