In April last year, Warmflow asked me to carry out some warranty work on a boiler I'd installed. "Don't worry about the money!"

Yeah, right.

"It's your boiler, shouldn't you do the warranty work?"

"No. You do it."

I do the work.

They don't pay.

"You charge too much." (Three call outs and posting an oil pump to them for £90 was too much?)

I took them to court and won, last September. They said "We're in Northern Ireland, you're in England, so we don't have to pay you." At least half a dozen letters later and in March, the Mediation Service phoned me to mediate. At first I said yes, then I refused and said I'd see them in court.

Their solicitor wrote a stinging letter to the judge. I went to court and saw the judge. He said he had no issues with my invoice.

Me, no solicitor, against this not too small company with attached legal advice ... and the judgement was awarded in my favour!!

And now I've been paid complete with penalty!!!

Yeehaa!!!!

I'm impressed mate, well done. A lot of people wouldn't have had the determination to pursue it that far which is what companies like this rely on. Good job!

Well done for sticking up for yourself. Can I be modest and ask what the penalty was?

intake I your not fitting warmflows any more then ....

Peanuts penalty (a few pounds for court costs and interest lost) but it's the principle that got to me. I've hardly made any profit with this (a loss if time is taken into account) because the courts do not let you claim for late payment penalties, postage, phone calls, time or anything like that.

I'll assume you'll be paid as normal but if you're not, I'll be happy to help out - there's loads of hoops to jump through before the court process.

First one for them so I'll wait and see. But I'll not be doing another until this one is paid 🙂

Tee hee - well done. It reminds me of when we were very much smaller (about 25 years ago) and issued a winding up order on Honeywell for £145 + VAT.

We got the money.

Should've said, Eddie. Wouldn't be the first time I've marched into their factory in Lisburn shouting the odds!

Similar experience of warmflow, wont fit them (though this is more due to the quality of them!) and wont do any more work for them.

well done dontknowitall, im impresssed with you for standing by your principles mate. Quite an inspiration!

Gee i found warmflow alright....ive always got hold of a girl called jenny whos been a star.

Its a shame when companys do this, theres no need.

it hurts them for far more than the money they save!

Many thanks for all the replies. Every cloud has a silver lining cos if I'd been busy plumbing I wouldn't have had the inclination to have kept chasing this.

Next stop is to write to the Justice Department to ask why I should be left out of pocket with all this chasing and why the whole process takes such a long time. It must cost this country billions.

Not sure I'll get very far with my complaint though as they'll all be protecting their Rses and their jobs!!
