Hi all, this is my first post.
My gas central heating control unit (potterton ep2 twin channel programmer) has switched off. I've taken it off, tried replacing the battery, hit it a few times, with no luck. Is the back plate a universal plate? Can I just buy a new unit and attach it to that back plate or do I need a pro in to replace the entire unit?
I am a first time buyer and only moved in 2 months ago. My DIY skills are limited but I am eager to learn.
Thanks

Thanks for your help. That's what I have, but I was thinking of replacing with a different unit if possible. I have read some Honeywells fit the back plate.

Is that a trusted retailer? They are considerably cheaper than my local plumbing stores who Potterton recommended.

It isn't one I've used but it seems quite a decent outfit?

Regard the back plate I honestly have no idea unless I see it 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I ended up buying a direct replacement from tlc-direct (much better feedback). Just waiting for delivery, hopefully it'll work out.

So I received the new programmer today (been away on work this week), took the battery tab out and nothing happened, put it on the old backing plate and it lit up. After fixing it I switched the heating on and then the backlight dimmed and the programmer is now off. Thoughts?

I suspect the backplate needs replaced. Is this eay to do? The backplates supplied is not identical, the main difference being the old plate has wires in slot 'B' and 4 wires in 'N'. The new plate has an empty space for 'B' but with no metal plate to attach the wire and space for only two 'N' wires.

Is this an easy job for an amateur or am I better getting in a plumber?
