Hi all,

About to quote for replacing a high level WC with a low level WC. The WC is (we think) the original one from when the house was built back at the start of the 20th century.

There are no fixing bolts through the floor so it is obviously stuck down on a mound of concrete. No sign of any drainage going out the back of the WC so it must go down into the floor under the WC.

From those that have replaced these before (this will be my first one) I take it a low level WC should be able to be fitted in it's place with no problem?

Probably have to chop it out leaving a hole in the floor where the pan is bedded down, so making good of floor with cement will be required before you can fit the new pan.

Also, you'll be very lucky to find a WC that will fit into the current soil without some boxing in behind it.
If anyone knows of a straight down pan for less than £100 let me know.

I wonder if I could find a suitable high level WC somewhere? The customer is keen to keep a high level WC if possible as it's more in-keeping with the age of the property. The current pan has hairline fractures in the back and I know that trying to get the pan out to fix the leak is going to break it for sure that's all.

Cheers. No probs doing all of that, I am just not sure what size/type of drain I will find under the pan. The pan doesn't look big enough for a standard 110mm drain with collar underneath.

Could be unlucky and find it old 3" pipe! I had this in an office block in london, was a right pain in the arse.

mcalpine do 3" adapters so no biggy.
yes you can still get high level stuff but expect to pay a chunk for it.

jcplumb any pan should be fine here as he's replacing with either a high or low level. boxing in would only be required if he was sticking in a c/c. with high or low level the pan goes into the waste and the flushpipe cut accordingly

I will go prepared with a McAlpine 3" 90 Pan Connector then just in case! No boxing should be needed as it won't be a close coupled WC I will be fitting. Either low or high level depending on what the customer wants. It was only really the unknown with the drain that was worrying me. The rest I am happy with!

Thanks all!

they do a 3.5" adapter as well as the 3" both in the form of a soil pipe extension. you cut this down to size and put your pan connector into it. if you look hard enough they probably do pan connectors with the reducer built in
