For all those interested in the history of the SAS or WW2, take a look at the story of Blair Mayne - the centenary of his birth was yesterday. He was a solicitor, from middle class background from Newtownards Northern Ireland, who was one of the founders of the SAS. His personal exploits, particularily in the desert against Hitlers forces, are incredible.

he is still alive and lives near brentwood. speaks something like 26 languages, worked for mi5 up untill about 5 years ago greeting and looking after foreign diplomats and he's 92 now!!!.

on a good day he tells us stories of north africa and the likes however, i cant tell you what went off.lol

Every time I go along Blair Maine Road in Ards I think of him.

IIRC Stirling created the SAS, Blair Mayne turned it into the fighting force it is today. I think he also played rugby for Ireland.

Blair Mayne and other SAS soldiers planted explosives on enemy aircraft unnoticed and when he found he had no more explosives left for the remaining planes, Blair got inside and tore the cockpits apart with his bare hands.
He must have saved plenty of allied lives with his actions.
