Hi, I know that the sentinel taps on a system are the one tap closest and one furthest from storage source but what i want to know is it really the closest tap or does it not depend on how the pipes are run? I know the typical plumber will say of course it really depends on how the pipes are run but i want to know if anyone knows for sure, Thanks!

why do you need to know?

the closest tap is not 'as the crow flies' but the closest connection in terms of pipework. eg you may have a tap next door to the storage but the pipes may run all around the property feeding all other taps first

Its for temperature testing, testing has to be done at sentinel taps, problem is i have about 200 to do and i am not going to check how all pipework is done plus it will all be concealed anyway so do you think its best saying that a sentinel tap is closest and furthest away regardless of how pipework is run?

well the closest to the storage will be the hottest delivery. the closest is not about the physical location but the length of pipe between source and outlet. as that is an unknown you need to find the hottest outlet and the coldest.

Do you have sentinel taps where a combination boiler is in use ?(no water storage, directly heated from the mains)
