if i could get the heat cell out i would try but its stuck solid, and yes sodium bicarb normally helps get them loose

and with the age is it worth it esp as its not had a service

They should occur a surcharge on a price for a new boiler for the fact that it looks very inaccessible

they try and flog a tool but a tap spanner does the trick

unless seized solid

Given the limited lifespan of some boilers, maybe a good strategy is to never have boiler serviced and just replace it when its knackered. You would save on all those servicing costs and that would go toward eventual replacement. Gone are the days when boilers really needed in depth servicing anyway.

lets work this out (worst case) decent boiler lasts 10 years all installed correctly etc

year 1 : normal service/ check £75
year 2 : normal service/ check £75
year 3 : in-dept service £ 150
year 4 : normal service/ check £75
year 5 : normal service/ check £75
year 6 : in-dept service £150
year 7 : normal service/ check £75
year 8 : normal service/ check £75
year 9 : in-dept service £150
Year 10 : normal service/ check £75

new boiler time

7 x £75 = £525

3 x £150 = £450

Total £975 saved/to new boiler
