Hi everyone, one of my friend was complaining about boiler shake with a big noise. So i went over to see him and sort his problem for him ( 4 hours drive ) i will try to explain the problem.
It is a Y plan, boiler Ideal icos 24he
when i get there i cleaned the system, added sludge remover and left it for a day,i should leave it longer but i didn't have too much time and the radiators didn't seem to have too much sludge. all radiators heat was perfect.
Cleaned the system and re-fill with chemicals. Fitted total filter. Bleed all radiators fine, what i noticed is the air vent was on heating side and there was no air vent on hot water side.So bleed the system on heating side when i asked for heating and hot water. Boiler did same shaking a few times when i was bleeding. After that all night no noise, next morning before i leave his house a waited extra 2 more hour, and all seemed fine.
Couple of days later i rang him, and he said it is still doing shaking but when ask for hot water. On heating itself everything ok,but when he asks for hot water it shakes. Boiler doesn't lock out , no error code, keep working, shakes for 10-20 seconds stops. the period is changing some times take half day, some time 1 hour or half hour.
I am thinking if it is blocked heat exchanger it should do same thing on heating aswell. Can it suck some air in? F/e water level is ok. Maybe when heat exchanger heats the water still some bit debris in the water as well can cause air bubles and cause air in the system than aut.air vent would sort the problem, ......
i will go this weekend again to sort it, i have lots of thing in my mind, some more different views will really help. I don't want to drive 4 hours again.
Any advice will be grateful.

wait for the "gas man " to show up he will be able to help you here !

how log you have you had your hands on the tools ?

serviced it,?(new gasket set required)if ionization probes are broken sort them now or its a write off, check fga settings, check flue elbow rubber inner gasket they can dislodge,if all else fails a large axe though the middle kills it dead, with the icos its better to kill it and fit something better, but if you dont want to do that go by the advice i have posted

That's why i was asking any more views, because i will go there weekend, and if parts needs changing and i have to wait couple of days for it, i can't do it. Better he finds someone local. As i said in the first post after cleaning the system that boiler didn't do anything while i was there. Thanks for advice i will think what to do
