I have a thermostatic shower (6 years old) IMG_7089.jpg that is running hot and cold. My plumber wants to replace my whole shower, as there is no obvious manufacturer's mark to know what type of cartridge it has. He has told me it is cheaper to disconnect the plumbing to the old shower and add a new shower beside it and put panelling over the top. Is this normal? He said it would roughly cost £250. I live in a hard water area.

Welcome to the forum.

Before plumping for a new shower, it is worth sending this photo of your shower to showerdoc.com, they are really good at identifying a shower and may be able to supply a replacement thermostatic cartridge.

The price your plumber has quoted seems reasonable but for peace of mind it would be worth getting a second opinion and possible alternatives to his proposal.

Good luck.

Thank you. Fingers crossed shower.doc can identify the shower.
