called to a radiator thats whistling,
on first arrival not a peep, but every 10 minutes or so, sure enough it started whistling, not your normal whistling radiator noise this is a proper mild singing!
2 pipe system, flow top right (trv), return bottom left.
changed trv settings, changed lockshield settings.. still the occasional whistle!
changed pump speed settings. no change
reduced pressure in system. no change
increased pressure in sytem. no change

pipes are 1/2 screwed iron dropping from ceiling run of 3/4

the occasional noise, does seem to be louder in the ceiling space

no changes in the installation for several months.

anyone had anything similar, if so what was the cause. at the moment think my next step is to isolate 1/2 inch pipework drop and check it is the rad pipework.

got meself a head scratcher... and a first

ta.

Hi Sounds like expansion to me, (excuse pun). But how much time and effort one can exhaust in curing the problem, posses another problem. My first attempt would be to isolate and undo unions on rad valves, releasing tension and just monitor effect. (if any) It could also be transmitted from another source via heating pipework? Being Blackpool it could be a Wannabe radiator looking for a break to the big time. Good luck

been back today, and sorted.

thanks justlead for reply.

turns out bearings on one of the pumps had started to go. in plant room a very slight
whirring noise from this pump ended up in oscillations down the pipework, ending up in these 2 raidiators.

very wierd. but sorted

that bit was pure luck!

have written it down in the book of things to remember tho, to think i was on the point of dismantling pipework sends a chill thru me bits!!
