HI there,

Unfortunately, I'm not very good when it comes to boilers but here it goes. We bought a new build house about a year and a half ago and had a nightmare with the boiler system. They fitted an Alpha inTec 34C with an additional top floor eco boiler with a solar panel. As it's been rather warm (I say this loosely) we haven't had the boiler on for about a week. When we turned the boiler back on last night I walked in from work today to a smell which I can only describe as the same smell you get from a burnt match. Is this normal on a boiler of this age to smell like this? Is it something I should be contacting the house builder about?

Thank you in advance.

no it isn't normal. to be on the safe side turn it off and call a gas safe registered engineer to have a look at it.

Thank you I will contact the builders as the boiler is still under warranty. They managed to wire to top boiler in wrong and that burnt out so it would supprise me if this downstairs boiler has the same issue.
