Soil stack connections ?

Hi Everyone,

I am new here, and have joined after coming across the site searching for an answer to my question on google 🙂

Anyway I hope you can help me, I have recently finished an extension on the house, apart from a larger kitchen we now have a utilty / cloakroom next to the main bathroom, all downstairs as its a bungalow! The soil stack which was outside the bathroom is now inside the utilty room, no problem with that as I have fitted an AAV on it, however I want to install a toilet in the new room, the question I have is: is it possible to have 2 toilet connections on one brach connection at the same level ?

I have read the building regs which talk about no crossflow and an offset of 200mm for opposed connections but can you buy a branch connection with two 100mm toilet connections at 90degrees to each other at the same level ? the existing toilet connection comes through the way straight into the stack not on one side or another.

Any help much appreciated.

yes you can have 2 toilets on one branch, like you can see in some pubs etc.

as for crossflow yes you can get a branch connection with two 100mm oppersite each other.
but if you look how they join the branch they force the water down not direct across.
you can have a pipe oppersite but not within 200mm from the centre of the outlet downwards on the opersite side.

to have a pipe oppersite it must be at right angled. like two 110mm branches.

its hard to explain unless you understand stacks.

Many thanks for the reply, I understand your explanation about the opposite connections needing to be 200mm offset but what about connections at 90 degrees from each other, ie ...

is this possible to have at the same level on the stack branch connection ? if not I guess I will need to move my existing toilet in my bathroom (it currently goes through the wall directly into the stack) and connect both toilets on the same branch.

90 degrees not a problem as its not directly oppersite.

Thanks Sonray, any ideas where I can get a stack branch connection with two toilet connections at 90 degrees on the same level ? all the ones I have seen in Wickes and B&Q only have one toilet connection.

It will have to be special order from a plumbers merchant or a specialist drainage stockist. If you take details of what you want in they may be able to locate something cheaper.

Forgot to say, if your joining plastics don't think 110mm is the same 110mm size in every make, they differ. And what is more usually not by much you may think, until you try and push fit them together and find that a spigot will not go into a collar, or the collar swims about. Try and find out who made the pipe and get a match.
The thing is you usually find this out when all the shops are shut. But you can warm pvc and sleeve a piece inside another with a hot air blower or blow lamp if your careful. Make sure they are the same sort of plastic and your not trying to join pvc to abs, because if its on the wet side of the stack it will not cement. Also check on expansion points to make sure that by fitting in a cemented joint your still allowing for expansion. Also make sure your expanded collars are the right way around with the flow not against it.
