On a g4 meter with medium pressure regulator and normally getting an average pressure of 24 mbar what is the correct way to do a soundness test with u gauge.(what is it about the regulator holding pressure that can fool you)

there are 2 different tests depending on how many ECV's are on the installation, and depending onthe type of medium pressure regulator

u don't know how to do a tightness test ? do u work with gas

He is talking about medium pressure rig if you read before jumping down his throat.

Pre regulator pressures of 75mb up to 2bar.
The meter shoul have a secondary ECV/MIV, not necessarily with a handle on. If it has this the soundness test as normal.

If not you need to call transco. I had to prove I could soundness test on one without MIV for CCN1 but was told out on the field that the due action was to phone transco.

When you are talking about the regulator holding pressure basically it needs to be zero'd brefore you can test. I think you had to test at 19mb as well???

as plucky says really,i have never come across MP in my district,so its easy to forget until you do your renewals i was curious if the op was a trainee or someone doing their renewal training,as the outlay of advice would differ

I came across my first medium pressure regulator a couple of weeks ago and have to admit I was a bit thrown.
It did have a secondary ecv, but even still I phoned someone who knew about them to get some advice.
Nothing wrong with asking for advice

blod

If in doubt ....... Ask

or as was on the wall in the joiners workshop where i used to work years ago........

If in doubt.......... brew up

Soundness test not a problem the question is between the ecv and the regulator will hold 75mbar on soundness the mp regulator can pass 4 mbar , so if test pressure brought down to 20 then test .

my bad 😛

During Let-By test turn off ECV and release pressure from the system slowly to prevent regulator closing. Holding open any release mechanism on the regulator to balance pressures on both sides of the valve.

then for soundness test release any pressure from the system and reseal, whilst operating any reset lever on the MP regulator, very slowly open MCV and raise pressure to 19mbar, try to avoid going above 19mbar as this may result in the Regulator Locking up.

If after test the regulator has to be reset its likely that it locked up and the test procedure will need to be carried out again.

Its a little bit LIke LPG installation's. UPSO OPSO Valve. The systems do vary depending on the valve configuration.

I'd have to get out my viper and have a coffee break, dont see them around here and never got asked during the acs etc, so fair question in my books

it wasnt in ACS, then it was, with full testing required, now it isnt, its mental, all you need to do in your ACS is recognise a MP installation, no test required, but there will be more and more of them appearing, so this is one of the things i would say was more than fair to ask about

let by on medium pressure is at 0mb and as others have said TT at 19mb
This is for the older type medium pressure supplies. On most modern medium pressure meter installs, there is an additional Meter Isolation valve (MIP). So you can test as normal by turning the MIP off. Don't use the ECV. The older meter installs, can be tricky to test. If you turn it on to quickly the regulator locks up and your gauge looses its water.

A couple of things to look out for on the medium pressure meter installs. Make sure the gas installation pipe exits the meter housing at the bottom and passes to outside before entering the property. It can not pass through the rear of the housing into the property. Make sure the clear vent tube is fitted to the regulator and passes to the outside of the housing.
