Go easy on me as this is my first post 🙂

anyway, I am in the process of getting my heating changed over from a combi boiler to 'old type' system with maxipod in attic, I have a good few questions tbh but I'll start with what might be a simple few questions. The boiler has a stat fitted and I also have a digital type stat in the hall. Can the system work properly using both these stats ? I mean say the boiler stat is set to 70o and the hall stat set to 21o, if the house stays around 21o, then the boiler prob won't even get the water heated up to 70o

that all makes sense in my head but when I type it out it doesn't look right lol.

another wee question regarding the timer/stat, there is a 4 core cable going from timer to boiler hut, the burner and pump output cable are connected together, I'm thinking this is wrong. Should it be wired so say if its on timer for a two hour period, power should go to the pump constant and the cable for the burner go via the stat in the hall ?

The Boiler stat is looking at Water temp
The Hall stat is looking at air temp.

The boiler normally has control of the pump for over run cool down when the burner goes offf.

Yes I know the boiler stat is water temp and hall stat is air temp but what way should they be worked, should I set the boiler stat at max and set the hall stat to 20 or 21 or whatever ?

thanks

what do you do for a day job?
any engineer, whether they are installation or just servicing would be able to speak to a customer and explain this.
please dont mess about with gas or electric if your not sure

Your boiler stat sets the water temperature leaving the boiler, leave it set at 70-75degC, any lower and the boiler will take forever to bring the house up to temp. The room stat should be around 21degC but that depends on the individuals perception of comfort.

The wiring configuration sounds fine.

In a nutshell all is working as it should be.

Me ? I am a mechanic working in a government mot centre, the plumber is calling out tomorrow to start fitting the solar for the water heating end of it. I was only asking what I should set both stats at.....

Steady on Shaun. If you're worried about a post please use the report function and we'll view and deal with it at necessary.

If its a MAXIPOD there should be a stat on cylinder to also control oil boiler
A MAXIPOD is a thermal store
And to be honest I don't rate them with solar as the idea is to keep the thermal store hot all the time for best efficiency therefor re solar dont work to optimum performance imho

There is a stat on the maxipod but its not wired yet, all will be finished by the end if the week, a few people have told me that this maxipod carry on was a decent idea 🙁

To be honest it can't be any worse than the combi boiler system we had as we went through a **** load if heating oil, as we have 3 kids and never done bathing them

Why did you get a MAXIPOD a simple unvented cylinder would of been cheaper and better

A few plumbers advised me this was the way to go, a lad in work got one fitted and reckons its awesome, but tbh I am not so sure now.

Another wee question I have, although I know it all isn't fully connected up yet, I have the stat on the boiler set to 75o and after the heating has been on a few hours, the temp gauge on the tank is reading 80o, when I ran a bath, the water was no more than luke warm

top tip, never go on a forum in a bad mood :nono: it leads to reading posts wrong and typing stupid things.
i thought the OP was installing the new system, now i realise hes the customer. my apologies bawheid.

There only any good if connected to a secondary heat source ie a stove
Your thermostatic mixing valve is set to low on MAXIPOD

We dont have a back boiler fitted to the fire in the living room yet, we only decorated at Christmas and the wife dont want to cut walls etc just yet, but the plumber said he will leave it so it can be fitted and connected in the future.
Where is the valve situated at ?

Last question for the night, you know the way I have a circulating pump out in the burner hut, the plumber has fitted another pump up in the attic, I think he said its to aid with circulation but it really annoying as we can hear it humming throughout the house, is this second pump needed at all ?

Yes the pump at boiler is a shunt pump just from boiler to MAXIPOD
And second pump is from MAXIPOD to heating

Yeh sure, I'll take some pics tomorrow and either post them up, or email them to you ? Where in N.I. Are you based ?

In Londonderry/Derry myself (on most forums I like to call it MC for political correctness lol) any particular pics of items/pipework you would like pics of ?

Lol I'm not into anything like that its
Fatdad or fatlad whatever your preference lol
What's mc
Pics of cylinder and pipework be good
Cheers
