Stop tap repair?????

Hi folks.
What’s the best action to stop this tap dripping at the spindle? Repack the gland?

Yes, repack the gland using ptfe tape rolled into a fine strand or loctite 55. It doesn’t need loads otherwise you’ll struggle to get the nut back in.

I’ve gotta loosen the thing first. It’s rock tight lol

Either the right sized open end spanner, Knipex grips or footprint wrench be care using toothed tools though as they can round off the nut.

I still can’t budge this chaps. Absolute nightmare.

Try partly closing the tap first and then try the nut. If it wasn't decorated around I might suggest gently warming the body.

That’s the main problem. Not disturbing the decor. Plus, it’s lead going into it and I know it’s only 15mm copper above.

Have you tried a bit of WD40? let is soak in.

Is it possible to turn the tap whilst gripping the gland nut in counter directions?

Might sound daft this but occasionally I have found that slightly tightening first helps if they are seized.

In a last ditch attempt, put a receptacle underneath, like a washing up bowl, and pour some boiling water on it? Or perhaps try some crack it spray?

That’s too easy lol. Trying to save ripping the box out. That wall paper is as old as the house lol
