hello everyone....
the cold water storage tank in the loft feeds the cold bath tap and the hot water cylinder. couled it also be used for the central heating system??? theres no other tanks in the loft and i cant find a filling loop to refill the central heating if i drain it, so is it topt up from this same tank?
thanks for any help.

Is there any other type of vessel near the cylinder? blue white or red?

no, nothing. iv had floor boards up theres a drain cock near the pump downstairs and thats it. the back boiler instructions state it should not be used in a sealed system, so i thought it had to have a tank. but if the tank in the loft is used for the central heating, is it ok for the tank to feed the bath tap as well??

as said above you probably have a primatic cylinder, how old is your system??

Try and trace your pipework back. If you only have one tank then it sounds like a primatic cylinder. I guess your system must be very old.

They are long since obsolete due to contamination issues and inability to add inhibitor to the heating circuit.

It is common to feed bath taps from the tank as well so that pressures are balanced, especially when a shower mixer is fitted (but don't drink the water of course).

not sure how old the system is, we moved into the house 6month ago, the cylinder has 2003 on it. And yes it does say primatic on the front but what does that mean? i take it the system does fill up from the storage tank then?
Thanks for all the help.

yes it does feed both sides hot water and heating with an air bubble created inside the cylinder and can be at times a right t~~t to set up

I doubt the cylinder itself is from 2003 as Primatic was obsolete many, many years before then. Consider replacing and upgrading it to a separate primary circuit which you can put corrosion inhibitor into to protect your rads and boiler.

You can still get primatic cylinders today.

Yes believe you can on special order but you can not use protective or any chemicals in the heating system (due to possibility of cross contamination) which most boilers now need ,so there use is very limited, would have thought cost would be very high also

You can still get Whitworth bolts, spare valves for valve radios, typewriter ribbons, springs for gramophones etc etc!

primatic cylinders are like sauniar duval boilers, unpack and put streight into skip

Stick the cat's whisker in the crystal set and listen to the Home Service. Give the walls a good coat of distemper and catch the tram into town to get Florrie Forde's latest wax cylinder, then fight your way through the rlow of suffragettes for a quick pint of beer for 6d and a pickled egg.
