Hi
Got a 2 port motorised valve that has busted, the motor not the valve. It's a szm 1803 which I believe is a sunvic valve but cannit find any reference to it on the web or even on their site.

Its for the hot water, don't have a combi. There is a szm 1802 for the central heating.

Can any recommend a replaqcement motor?

Thanks for any help

2 posts on sunvic valves, no surprise they are pants, spend a bit more and put a honeywell in instead, and you wont be forever replacing the heads

Can you please recommend a model onlne which is a suitable lame plumber?
Something which is a direct replacement of a szm1803. I am not in the trade either 🙁

just get a plumber in to do a swap, cheaper than messing around if you dont have a clue

Defintely a job for a professional if your replacing it with something else, which is the best way forward, will probably need re-wiring from scratch if its anything like the mess I came across a couple of weeks ago. Still having nightmares.

Danfoss not much better than sunvic, sick of changing them on camray 5's.

Get a pro in and get them swapped out for a couple of honeywells.

I bought a sunvic 1809 online for 50 quid. Working perfect now. It will also be under warrenty should if fail again.

I just wish plumbing shops would cater for the general cunsumer better. Every where I went was trade only. Wasn't going to callout a plumber to be lead down the garden path Lameplumber. Oh, and clearly I did have a clue by not spending money on crazy labour charges or miss diagnostics!

if you didnt need advice why ask in the first place? only trying to ensure that another diy cock up didnt end up costing a fortune coz they got it wrong, still now your confident you can have a go at something really hard next time.

Am I the only gsr eng replacing every port valve with draytons? love the snap on actuators. have heard they're not too reliable but ridiculously easy to replace!! My humble advice every time, chuck a drayton on it!

No you're not the only one fitting Draytons (Acl as they were once known) IMO they are the best valve on the market. Every bit as good as Honeywell and better for the reasons you gave.

No you're not. On 3 port valves, we sell 3 Draytons for every one Honeywell. No other make is anywhere close.

On reliability, the Honeywell seems to have a slight edge, returns in warranty are 6.3 per thousand, whereas Drayton is 8.5 per thousand. Still a pretty tiny number, and both below the 1% return rate which is the average for all hard-wired controls.

On zone valves, weirdly, its neck and neck - sales are almost exactly equal across the two manufacturers.

You seem to fully in touch with what's going on in your business Ray.

Any figures for size of business buying a particular brand, e.g 1 man bands buy more Drayton and Co's buy honeywell? (slightly tongue in cheek question)

Return rates are something we watch very closely Snowhead, for obvious reasons. TBH, I pay more attention to new products than to proven lines like these, but the computer system monitors all returns, so its easy for me to just look up the figures. On a fast selling, well established line it means that we can pin-point any batch quality problems quickly.

Our customers are overwhelmingly small businesses - from sole traders up to firms with 5 or less employees. We do deal with large contractors sometimes, but only the ones who pay on time. 🙂

Having thought about it, I reckon one reason for the Drayton 3 port selling so many more against Honeywell compared to the 2 port is that back in the 90s when new-build was booming, ACL (as it was then) were incredibly aggressive with contract terms in the south east. Almost all new sites were fitting Bi-flo (3 port) packs, very rarely twinzone packs. Those valves will be 12 - 20 yrs old now, so you would expect them to start failing.
