Hi guys I am trying to work out why our System boiler has 5 Pipes 2 28mm (Flow & Return) 1 Gas and two unknown 22mm.

The hot water is from the cylinder 3 port valve from the 28mm and returns via the other 28mm.

Any clues

what make ,model of boiler is it
would imagine as one 3 port valve
one flow.one gas two returns (Heating and hot water brought back to boiler) and maybe vent or cold feed

system boiler meaning expansion vessel in the boiler so probably filled from there and a discharge out

Boiler is an Ideal Mexico 2 as I said there is a 3 port valve at the cylinder, but I forgot to mention there is also a 2 port valve on one of the unknown 22mm's at the boiler, why would the feed and expansion be taken all the way to the boiler?

Sorry not a system boiler its conventional 😱

Well expect the pipe with a motorized valve on is either a extra zone ie upstairs or downstairs heating circuit, favourite or it could have been put on to provent any back feed to heating when boiler on hot water mode instead of a non return valve
The cold feed is brought back to the boiler because this is good practice on boilers with cast iron heat exchangers

my guess would be the two 22s are cold feed and vent while the two 28 mms are the flow and return to the cylinder cupboard
probably a previous system was gravity hot water and they have used the old pair of primaries to get up to the airing cupboard and convert it to fully pumped
or theyve capped the 28s to keep a towel rail in the primary circuit and run new 22 f and rto pump etc

When the cylinder calls for heat does the two 22 mm pipes get hot. Also where are they connected to the boiler?
