Hi,

I have to keep topping my CH system up every 2 to 3 weeks and I don't think you should have to do it that often? How often should you have to top up system? I have also found air building up in 1 of my radiators as well (the one that does not have thermostatic valve fitted).

I reckon I must be leaking water somewhere but can't find it?
However I did tie a freezer poly bag round CH drain pipe and after a week it was full of water? Why would CH system/boiler be releasing water out of drain pipe?

Cheers
Dave

Your expansion vessel has probably lost some of its air so there is insufficient spare space to take the expanding water. It is refilled using a bike pump (see descriptions of this technique on the net) or needs a new valve. Alternatively it could be bust and require replacing.

When your CH is cold fill to 1 bar and then put heating on full and see if the pressure rises to 3 bar, if it does theres a problem with your expansion vessel as mentioned by WHPES.

Thanks guys. I will check what the pressure in the expansion vessel is.
Should this be checked with CH/Hot Water off or does it not really matter?

Pressure it up cold, switch on the boiler for 10 mins, let it cool and see if it has dropped.

You need to pressurise the expansion vessel (air) with the boiler drained (water) you need around 1 bar air pressure, after you have done that, re-pressurise the system to around 1.2 bar. The pressure should then remain close to 1.2 when the boiler temp is high or low. Before doing above make sure the pressure relief valve is not letting by as it could be the reason for losing pressure. Hope this helps,
Martin

if preasure on gauge is under 3bar and water is comming out of the prv it needs a new one while the boiler is drained to change prv check air preasure in exspansion vessel is to MI's usually 1 bar
