Hi, can you buy the bath and basin Brass Back nuts separate? or always only with taps? also what are the washers called, the black rubber ones that go between tap and basin and basin and backnut? thanks.

its called a 1/2 inch back nut and 1/2 inch rubber washer

or 3/4 inch

yes you can buy all of these seperately from any good plumbers merchants also worth having in your fitting box are a few tophat washers dont be shy in the merchants and if you do not know the name of anything just describe it like you have on here🙂regards turnpin

haha thats what i do, i also have a few spare plastic ones that i swap when fitting brass ballcocks so i can keep the brass ones for taps, plastic jam nuts are pants and never seem to tighten up properly

You can get metal top hat washers as well as plastic that seem to last longer.

You can also use old 22mm and 28mm brass fitting back nuts as top hats.

The top hats made of plastic seem to break up fair easily on the hot.
