I have a customer who wants to remove a faulty tap. He wants to drill out the tile.. But the drill will not reach the tile.

If he removes clips A and B will the internals of this unit come out?

I guess he would need these. and a flat head screwdriver

He needs access to the tile. Here is his message....

Please see attached photo. I need to enlarge the hole shown in this 10mm thick (ultra strong) tile so that I can remove the faulty cartridge from the tap shown in the centre of the photo.

The hole needs to be 42mm in diameter but if I purchased one of your 42mm Porsadrills, it wouldn't be able to reach the tile because the tap cartridge shown in the photo extends 51mm out of the tile. The Porsadrill would need to be over 61mm deep inside in order to be able to drill the hole with the cartridge in place.

Please can you help. Do you know where I could get an extra deep diamond hole cutter (with no central drill bit)? Or do you know a person who might have such a tool and could come and cut the hole?

The only alternative I can think of is to stitch drill small holes all the way around this hole - but I think that would take a long time and lots of holes!

One other alternative might be for me to saw off the cartridge in the photo. How deep (internally) is your 42mm hole Portsadrill please?

Regards,

Mark

No, removing the circlips will not allow the internals to be pulled out from the front (as we're looking at the photo). Look at where the circlips are - they are positioned to prevent the spindle and body from being pushed backwards away from us.

However, I'm sure that the cartridge will unscrew from the tap body without enlarging the hole - he needs to get the remaining chrome ring off and then try gripping the cartridge at the base.

Someone might be along to correct me but I've never seen a cartridge wider than the bit that protrudes through the tile.

It'll be very stiff I expect. Removing tap revivers can be a nightmare an normally requires gripping the tap spout to keep it from spinning. Might be tricky in this case.....
