On a y plan system on heating only Does the three port have a live grey wire from the programmer?

My wiring knowledge is pants 🙂

but if you've got an iPhone then download the Honeywell wiring app. It's amazing and helped me loads.

I have said application haha. Thank you whn1. So could you please explain to me why there's a HW off and HW on but only a CH on and not a CH off? Why does the valve have to have a live when from HW off?

Because the resting position of the valve is hw fully open. So the spring pulls it back

Yes otherwise how would the boiler know when to fire? Or when would the valve know when to hold the mid position.

How good is the honeywell course, worth the money? Does the training they provide come in handy often? for different situations eg fault finding and wiring new systems or adding new components such as a new programmer?
