toilet installation, iron soil pipe connection

hi, i wanted to install a toilet in my shower room. there has never been a toilet connected to this waste pipe before.

could i connect a toilet soil pipe to this shower waste pipe? it all goes to the sewer, right? there's not dedicated pipes for water waste and others for toilet waste, is there?

you may have an issue when you try sending 6 liters of water half a loo roll and a big old Richard down an inch and a half pipe

if you can access the soil stack bellow i would advise changing it all to plastic if you cant then change from the lowest point you can access all the way up. but make sure it is all the way up its never a good idea to leave 4 meters of cast iron stack sitting on a bit of plastic.

ultimately yes it can be achieved one way or another if there really was no other way then a macerator will do it. but that would be my last resort

I agree. If you own the entire stack, or from that level upwards, then change to plastic if you are brave enough to attempt it & if you can get near it. I wouldn't want a macerator either & would prefer to do days of work if necessary to install new stack, but it would also sort your problem.

That looks like a pan inlet on the right of the stack. You could just use that to connect, in the same way as the 42mm pipe is connected in the picture. This will work unless (a) it's a 3" inlet or (b) you want the pan on the same wall as the 42mm pipe. If either of the afore mentioned is the case then it's going to be one of the other suggestions I'm afraid. Personally, I'd replace the stack 🙂

Use the white pipe and keep some drain rods by the new toilet to rod it through each time you use it! :toilet:
