How long have these been out? (probably ages?) I can't say I've ever seen one before until yesterday at a customers. My eye was caught be the huge white block hanging on the wall.

They are obviously not that common?

At least 30 years. But you are right, they aren't common. We don't bother to stock them.

Fitted them on air source jobs. Look horrible. And Kids seem to think they're designed for sitting on!

I've a client in lurgan got 8 of the bloody things. Bleed screws snapped on 2 of them. They won't replace them because "they look nice."

Almost essential on GSHP and ASHP rettofit installs; with the flow temperature down at 45° to get the same heat (kW) output you need 3.1 x the amount of radiator 🙂
Alternatives are fan assisted radiators - then you've to provide leccy power as well (ok in full refurb / new build)

Forced convection convection rads are carp. Noises dust and Myson ones don't last 2 seconds but like a plynth heater! If u buy decent rads I.e delta t is 35 and not 55 you need less d
Rad for your wall.

We don't like and don't specify the forced convection rads, sometimes customers insist on them though .. 🙂

So this opens up an interesting discussion 🙂 and hereby hijacks this thread 🙂

What are the best / most efficient low flow temperature (NOT Low surface temp that's different) rads, suitable for Heat pumps - to get high efficiency out of the heat pump, we need to be working on a flow temp of 45° or lower, and hence we need to work on a Δt of 20 or less.

- That's were the MCS (compulsory) guidelines come from - take the manufacturers Δt50 outputs and then multiply the required output by 3.1 so instead of a 1kW rad we need one that outputs 3.1kW, that then gives us a 1Kw at a Δt20 - they've kept it simplistic so that it's difficult to make mistakes.

So, who makes the best / best value (kw/£ vs physical size / kw) low temperature flow radiators - Suggestions please?
