Hi, quick question about trv's. I have myson trv's on my radiators and a lot have stopped working over the years. I am about to rent the house out and need to fit some new ones. However i dont know what heads to buy.

The valve screws on via a screw that is roughly 22mm in diameter. However a lot of trv's on the web say 15mm, does this refer to the screw bit of the head or the bit of pipe that comes with them? I dont want to have to change the pipe bit, just the head.

Any advice?

Cheers and happy new year.

There's a good chance the valve itself has failed as well as the head. Bite the bullet and fit complete new valves.

You will need to change the entire valve, not just the head.
New valves come complete with heads.

valve heads cost more than the complete unit, but I know you have to spend time swapping them but they will then work properly for a while longer

Take a picture of the head and send it to Myson's customer service dept, they may be able to tell you if a replacement is available or not.

Thanks for the replies all.

Are the valves difficult to fit? Will i have to drain the system or anything?

Hi there, sounds like some of your trv's have stuck shut which can happen. Best bet is to remove the heads and see if the rads then become hot. If not see if the pins on the trv's are pushed down you might be able to free them off with a pair of pliers but go easy on them don't force anything! If you need new valves the 15mm refers to the size of the connection on to the pipe, I'd recommend Honeywell trv's never seem to give any problems! PTS's boss trv's are good value too made by Peglar I beleive

Hi, cheers for the reply. Rads all heated when heads were off. Looked at old heads and the plastic pin thing was stuck down solid on all.
Went to wicks and brought one for a tenner on the off chance and it fitted perfectly! All rads now work fine.
