Urgent: BS for radiator height

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a 'official' British Standard reference for the installation of radiators and a minimum height? Is the minimum of 150mm a British Standard or simply 'best practice'. If so, is there a web page I can print out?

No minimum height that I know of but best practice is something like 150mm from the floor, 50mm from the wall and 100mm down from curtains/shelf although I can't remember the exact measurements. E.g. might only be 25mm from wall 150mm down and 100 up from floor.

There is not a British Standard Height to a radiator,the regulations refer to the outputs in BS 5449 ect
The Minimum height for most radiators is 6" or 150 mmm,this is the height recommended by manufactorers to allow enough air flow at the base of the radiator to produce its design output,this can go down to 100mm for some types of radiator.In therory this recommended minimum hieght could be lower if you use the side of the rad bracket that thats it further from the wall,this is recommended if you go below minimum hieght (its not done just to make rad fit over skirting🙂 although one helps the other)
So you are not going against any building regulations by droping rad lower just manufactors recommendations,but if you drop them low enough to effect output you are and if you had a problem with outputs and rad manufactor came along and saw low, would say, hay, not my problem
This may sound far fetched,a rad giving incorrect output but years ago we had alot of problems with one make of rad

Agree with Puddle, the only exception is on designer rads, like chrome plated bathroom rads etc, i leave that up to the customer, infact i insist on it as some people like it a lot higher while others are happy to have it at 150mm. It just saves me having to rehang it after a difference of opinion.
